HOPES CAP, Inc. utilizes the assistance of volunteers in a variety of ways for the many programs and services the agency offers. Volunteers can support HOPES CAP, Inc. with carrying out its mission through direct “hands on” assistance or by sharing their knowledge and/or expertise. Through volunteering individuals have a chance to feel that they own a stake in their community and have made a positive impact in the lives of their neighbors. Volunteers also have opportunities to participate on committees, councils and boards when appropriate.
Volunteer Opportunities with HOPES CAP, Inc.
Volunteer Income Tax Preparer – Become a certified tax preparer through the IRS and assist individuals with preparing their basic tax returns for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Volunteers will receive training on how to prepare taxes using the IRS e-filing program. This volunteer position starts December and ends April 15th. Volunteers may select to work days/evenings during the week/weekends in Hoboken and Plainfield, NJ. For more information about VITA, click here.
Early Childhood Services Assistant - Support the academic, social and nutritional development of Early Head Start children (birth – 3 years) and Head Start children (3 – 5 years) by volunteering in various capacities (classroom aid, cook, administrative assistant and custodian). These volunteer positions are ongoing. Volunteers may select to work weekdays from 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM in Hoboken and Plainfield, NJ. Senior Programs Assistant – Support staff with conducting home visits to senior citizen clients’ homes, escorting senior clients to and from scheduled appointments and/or performing light administrative duties for HOPES CAP, Inc.’s Senior Programs. Volunteers may select to work weekdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM in Hoboken, NJ. For more information about HOPES CAP, Inc.’s Senior Programs, click here.
Community Outreach Assistant – Assist with picking up bulk food items from local food distributor, placing food parcels in refrigerator and/or distributing food to senior citizens. This volunteer position is ongoing and takes place one Saturday per month from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM in Hoboken, NJ. For more information about HOPES CAP, Inc.’s Low Cost Food Program click here.
Volunteering with Youth - HOPES CAP, Inc. seeks interested volunteers to work with youth, ages six through eighteen years of age. Opportunities include mentoring and tutoring based activities; persons with specialized interest and skills sets in art, dance, music, science, mathematics, foreign language, technology and literature are urged to apply. Experience working with youth beneficial but not required; length and frequency of service tailored to suit project and volunteer’s availability.
