The Hoboken Organization against Poverty and Economic Stress (HOPES, Inc.) is a Community Action Agency established in the 1960 ís in Hoboken, New Jersey and was incorporated in 1966, organized as a 501(c) (3) corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. HOPES, Inc. is the entity responsible for the provision of anti-poverty and Head Start services on behalf of Hoboken, and, as such, its services extend beyond early childhood education to include all low income residents.
Today HOPES' mission is to provide community services that respond to the social, educational and training needs of its residents in an effort to overcome barriers and fight the causes of poverty. HOPES has been providing quality, reliable and professional services to citizens of all ages in Hoboken for 40 years. Since its founding approximately 43 years ago, the Agency has more than doubled in the number of children it serves when it began with 82 children and families.
HOPES Inc. Head Start is a Federal and State funded Early Childhood Development program that offers comprehensive services including full-day, extended day and summer activities to eligible low-income families free of charge.
HOPES Inc. Family Resource Center is located in the Hoboken Housing Authority complex and offers Hoboken residents a variety of programs that assist in personal and professional growth.
HOPES Inc. Medical Transportation Program provides coordinated support services to help seniors maintain independence and remain a valued part of the community.
HOPES Inc. Senior Outreach Program provides homebound elderly with home visits, light housekeeping assistance and local errand services.
HOPES, Inc. 21st Century Program provides high quality after school programs, in collaboration with the Hoboken Board of Education and other community agencies.
HOPES, Inc. Even Start Program is a family literacy initiative, which offers many free services to qualifying families in collaboration with the Hoboken Board of Education and St. Mary's Community Mental Health Center.
NJ Shares Energy Assistance Program assists Hoboken residents in obtaining energy assistance as an intake agency for NJ SHARES.
The HOPES NJ CEED Program is one of the county's community-based organizations actively participating in educating the community about free cancer screening available through the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program (NJCEED).
Throughout the years, HOPES has established meaningful collaborations and partnerships with local organizations in order to better serve its clients. Current partnerships exist with the National Council on Aging, St. Mary Hospital, Hoboken Board of Education, Hoboken Housing Authority, Hoboken Family Planning, and New Jersey Statewide Heating Assistance and Referral Energy Service. |
