Early Childhood Education
The US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families provides funding for our Head Start Program. This program is expanded and enhanced by additional funding received from the New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Early Childhood Education through the Abbott Preschool Program administered by the Hoboken Board of Education, and the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Family Development. The program also receives a small grant from the City of Hoboken Department of Human Services, Community Development Division.
The nutrition component of our children's programs is supported with funds provided by the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture Bureau of Child Nutrition Programs, Child & Adult Care Food Program. To further enhance services to families, HOPES, Inc. also partners with the Hoboken Board of Education to support and promote the family literacy needs of single parents through an Even Start grant.
Senior Programs
The Senior Outreach Program is supported by the Department of Health and Human Services, Hudson County Office for Aging, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Housing and Community Resources, Office of Community Services through a Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). CSBG funding also supports in part the Medical Transportation Program.
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center is supported in part through CSBG funding, with additional funding received from the Hoboken Housing Authority. The 21st Century grant enables the Family Resource Center to expand its adult literacy services.
Cancer Outreach and Prevention Program
Our Cancer Outreach and Prevention Program receives funding from the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Program, through a contract maintained with Hoboken Family Planning, Inc.
NJ Shares
NJ Shares awards funds received from PSE&G, contributions from utility customers that are matched, and other state sources for the purpose of helping disadvantaged families with utility bills.
Verizon Life Line
As a result of a Congressional mandate, the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) Federal Universal Service Fund provides discounted residential services to senior citizens. NJ Shares has partnered with Verizon New Jersey to provide this telephone service.
United Water Cares
United Water funds and sponsors United Water Cares program administered by NJ Shares in an effort to reduce the number of customers who face having their water shut off.
Donations
There are many opportunities to help children and elder citizens which are not covered through our traditional funding sources. HOPES, Inc. appreciates any tax-exempt contributions, which can be used for such benefits as food baskets for seniors and special holiday needs-giving, such as Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas food vouchers.
